Companions on the journey to healing
At Neighbors Place, animals are more than just pets; they're integral members of our community, offering comfort, responsibility, and a unique path to recovery. Discover the heartwarming role they play in fostering healing and stability for our residents.

Our animal residents
Neighbors Place proudly supports both recovery and animal welfare outcomes through our unique residential model. We welcome resident-owned cats and dogs that meet specific health, vaccination, and behavioral standards. Additionally, our site temporarily houses rescued cats and dogs through the Neighbors Place companion animal shelter component. All animals are carefully assessed for documented health status, temperament, and suitability for our shared, supportive environment. Residents actively participate in their daily care, from feeding and sanitation to exercise and socialization, ensuring humane treatment and individualized attention.

Healing through connection
At Neighbors Place, companion animals play a crucial, evidence-informed role in supporting our residents’ recovery. Engaging in daily animal care activities like feeding, exercise, and health monitoring provides consistent routines, responsibility, and accountability – essential elements for successful sober living. These structured responsibilities reinforce time management, reliability, and self-discipline, promoting sustained sobriety. Beyond routine, interaction with animals offers emotional grounding and nonjudgmental companionship, significantly reducing stress, anxiety, and social isolation. Residents develop empathy, confidence, and self-efficacy by contributing to the well-being of another living being, fostering a sense of purpose and resilience.

A philosophy of compassion and responsibility
At Neighbors Place, animals are an integral and respected part of our recovery environment, embodying our philosophy of compassion, responsibility, and mutual care. We ensure humane and safe treatment for all animals, who in turn provide routine, emotional grounding, and purpose for our residents. This approach reinforces that recovery is strengthened through meaningful responsibility and connection, and that healing thrives in calm, nurturing, and relational environments. We believe both people and animals benefit from stability, dignity, and consistent care, advancing recovery and animal welfare together. Neighbors Place is currently preparing to open its pilot home in Ponca City, Oklahoma, and we welcome inquiries for our unique program.
